Mudroom Inspiration From the Studio McGee Archives
01 Playful Office Space

Mudrooms are one of our favorite spaces to design whenever we have the opportunity. They offer a perfect blend of functionality and style, allowing us to create a welcoming entryway.

Originally commonly found in farmhouses in the 19th century, mudrooms functioned as backrooms in between the outside world and the home for farmers to remove their muddy clothes. Today, mudrooms we design look and function a little bit differently. Though they are not necessary for every home, in areas with wet or muddy climates, having a space to enter, hose off your boots, and store your things is the ultimate luxury.

Designing a mudroom is all about merging beauty with utility. If you’re looking to build, remodel, or refresh a mudroom area, finding some inspiration can be the perfect place to start. Scroll through to see a few of our favorite mudrooms from the Studio McGee design archives.

01

The McGee Home
A high contrast look.

The McGee’s mudroom features tall locker-style cabinetry, industrial lighting, soapstone countertops, and. cement tiles laid in a classic herringbone pattern.

Paint Color

The cabinetry in the McGee’s mudroom is painted in Midnight by Benjamin Moore, a moody black with hints of green.

02

The Spec Home
A statement-making green.

The cabinetry in our Studio McGee Spec Home mudroom is painted in Forestwood by Sherwin-Williams, “the most beautiful shade of green,” Shea says. It provides a playful but sophisticated pop of color in a space of utility.

03

Home on the Bay
Creamy white and natural wood tones.

A creamy white (White Dove by Benjamin Moore) on the cabinetry gives an earthy nod to the slate floors and natural wood countertops.

The cabinetry in our Home on the Bay project’s mudroom is painted in White Dove by Benjamin Moore, a clean, classic, creamy white.

04

Mountainside Retreat
A touch of modern.

Shea and the design team brought in repeated pendants to draw the eye to the dark-painted ceiling and bring a cozy feeling to the storage spaces below. Sleek steel windows give the room a touch of modern design.

05

Park City Contemporary
Light, bright, and vintage.

A sophisticated mudroom provides a drop space for shoes and bags, featuring soft grey cabinetry, cool leather hooks, and vintage textiles for warmth.

Paint Color

The cabinetry and walls in our Park City Contemporary project’s mudroom is painted in Swiss Coffee  by Benjamin Moore, a favorite shade by Shea and the design team.
