01 Playful Office Space

In many homes, there’s a need for one room to serve multiple purposes—from a living room that doubles as an office to laundry room where homework gets done. Here we are rounding up a few of our favorite multifunctional spaces in the Studio McGee archives.

In today’s dynamic living spaces, versatility reigns supreme. It’s not uncommon for a single room to wear many hats, seamlessly transitioning from a bustling office during the day to a cozy living area in the evening. Even though there is a lot going on in these spaces, it’s more than possible to make them blend together in a beautiful way. In multipurpose spaces we suggest mimicking a traditional layout but using fewer furniture pieces, such as using one lounge chair instead of two. You can also use smaller scale furniture pieces like a settee instead of a sofa. When selecting furniture for a room, consider dual function, for example, a table in a laundry room that can be used for folding clothes and a place for children to do homework. In these spaces the beauty lies in their ability to cater to diverse needs, effortlessly accommodating the ebb and flow of daily routines.
