Netflix Deep Dive | A Midcentury Modern Bath Remodel
Inside Episode Six of Dream Home Makeover, exploring every last design detail.
24 January 2023 -
In episode six of Dream Home Makeover, Syd and Shea make their way to the Federal Heights neighborhood of Salt Lake City to clients Conor and Cindy’s midcentury home. “It’s one of the oldest, most established neighborhoods,” Shea explains. For this project, Shea and the design team remodeled the couple’s primary bathroom, which was originally a disjointed and divided space that took the couple apart for their morning routines.
In the reveal, the new bathroom is now one cohesive space with a warm white paint color, Whipped by Clare, throughout the entire room. Terrazzo floor tiles from Ann Sacks pair with a dark green ceramic wall tile in the shower, which “really works with the midcentury style of the home,” explains Shea. To take advantage of a funky sloping wall, Shea and the design team carved out a space for Cindy to have a vanity, complete with an alabaster and hand rubbed antique brass light fixture and a retro-inspired velvet stool in a deep rust color.
The freestanding tub introduces some curves for a “touch of femininity,” Shea says. A bidet (the client’s request) and a double vanity outfit the rest of the space, with unlacquered brass fixtures used throughout. “The glass on the shower makes a huge difference,” in making the space feel larger, Shea adds.
Even though a wall was moved, the couple’s closet still has the same amount of storage, with added shelves specifically designed for shoe storage. Take a deeper look into the space in the photo tour below, as well as shop items from the Midcentury Modern Bath Remodel in the slider at the bottom of this post.
