Shea’s Morning Routine
Our founder on how she starts her day.
16 August 2023 -
I find that the creativity I need to do my job starts with a positive mindset, and I’m all about starting my day in a way that allows me to be at my best in work and play. Everyone has different things that work for them, but I always find it inspiring to read about how other creative professionals begin their days. Today, I’m sharing my morning routine.
I wake up at 5:15 am most mornings, throw on my workout clothes, fill up my Stanley cup, and head downstairs to our basement to work out or go play tennis. When working out at home I use the Ladder app and follow Courteney Fisher’s workouts which are a mix of strength, cardio, and Pilates or I walk on an incline. Tennis is a recent addition to my life, and I can’t get enough of it. See my pickleball and tennis essentials here.
Waking up hasn’t always come naturally for me (I am most creative at night and for years I did not exercise healthy sleep patterns), but Syd is an avid Huberman follower, and he has helped me change my routine. Being a regular sleeper has truly transformed my energy and overall health. We use a mattress cover called Sleep 8 and it cools while you sleep and adjusts through the night. It allows you to set your alarm through their app and the mattress heats and buzzes when it’s time to wake up, which is much less jarring than a loud alarm.
After my workout, I shower and follow my skincare routine starting with an ice roller or ice mask. After washing my face with this cleanser, I spritz the Tower 28, apply this serum (it’s outrageous but the results were visible for me after a few uses and the reviews speak for itself), Daily Power Defense, apply neck cream because I’m in my late 30s now 😉, and finish everything off with this tinted sunscreen.
As the kids start to wake up for the day, I help them pick out their outfits and do hair while Syd prepares breakfast. Once they’re at school, I make the same protein shake every morning using Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides and Just Ingredients Coconut Chocolate Protein Powder. See the full recipe below.
From there, depending on my schedule I either throw on some makeup and fluff my hair or I get my hair and makeup done to be on camera – although I usually find a few minutes here and there throughout the morning to answer messages and emails on my phone, my work day officially begins around 9 am.
