McGee Home Refresh | Wren's Room
The subtle details that give the space a whole new look.
27 February –
In her oldest daughter’s room, Shea didn’t make as many dramatic changes, but rather aimed to add some more charm through lots of layers and Wren’s favorite colors. Read on for how Shea filled the room with shades of pastel for a refreshed look.
When designing kids’ spaces, Shea suggests creating an area that can grow with them. Since she had initially done this in Wren’s room, a few subtle changes gave the space new life.
Now that Wren is a tween, she has her own opinions and enjoys participating in the decision-making process. Alongside Shea, Wren picked out the Roslin Hand-Knotted Wool Rug from McGee & Co., because her favorite color is light blue. The rug set the tone for the rest of the updates. Shea ordered a lot of different fabric swatches and then let Wren decide what she wanted for the pillows on her bed. Wren chose a floral pattern with touches of light blue. Shea kept the end of the bed layered and neutral with the Briony Gauze Quilt and Inger Gauze Coverlet. She also switched out the previous ottomans for the Channel Ottomans, which feel more grown up yet still playful.
Shea updated the shades on the sconces on each side of the bed with a pleated gingham shade. It adds pattern and texture and is a great example of a small change that makes a big difference. Shea was excited to see nightstands in the room and the Wasatch Round Accent Table, from our collection with Target, was the perfect size, shape, and color.
Shea took the vintage chair that was previously in Wren’s room for her bedroom, so she added a woven bistro chair paired with a ruffle cushion with tie bows. Above the desk area, Shea switched the decor around for a new look featuring a piggy bank from when she was a child. The last thing Shea did was restyle the existing dresser. She added the Avedon Table Lamp and a scalloped mirror. Watch the webisode below as Shea shares how her daughter was a part of the design process and keep scrolling for a full photo tour of the space.
“Wren loved to be a part of the design process, and continued to check in on the progress of her design boards. It was fun for us to work on the project together.”
